Win32 ld.exe checking how to hardcode library paths into programs... immediate checking whether the g++ linker (/usr/i686-pc-cygwin/bin/ld.exe) supports shared libraries... yes checking whether the g++ linker (/usr/i686-pc-cygwin/bin/ld.exe) supports shared libraries... yes checking dynamic linker characteristics... Win32 ld.exe so, Cygwin now supports shared libraries or always did? sorry if this sounded like dumb, but as I said I understood that never did, moreover, the lack of /sbin/ldconfig should have supported my previous believes.
