You can definitely install 32-bit and 64-bit alongside each other, although if you do anything manually with your path, for example, you should be careful the installs don't interfere with each other. I've been using my Git install day-to-day on 32-bit Cygwin, mostly because that's where I have most of my environment set up, but I've been trying to test both when I've been explicitly testing my builds.
