Not to contradict the other respondents (and it is not exactly what you asked), but you do not need to create a cygwin package for one machine. You can just configure, compile, etc. However, you might want to check at each step, singe the default prefix is probably /usr/local, which may not be in your path. (If that is wrong, I'm sure someone will correct it soon.)
