I resolved to try again and did an uninstall and then tried to clean up the c:\cygwin directory, but one of the subdirectories would not delete (specifically c:\usr\local). That's when I remembered that I copied my c:\cygwin\etc, \local and \home directories from my old laptop over to my new one. The reason it would not delete was because the user/owner info was still from the old laptop. I wondered if the old userid was mucking up the fresh installation... I was unable to delete the directory, so I renamed c:\cygwin to c:\hideme and then did a re-installation with setup.exe and voila! -- a working Cygwin installation with a running bash.exe. :-) Hopefully this helps! But also one that may require more input and action by you to resolve. I'll offer a couple of pot-shots, in the absence of more details. On Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit. ^^^^^ Here it seems like you're pointing at Windows 7 x64. FWIW, I have installed on this platform no problem. Well, of course, I'm not the only one. They'll eventually get addressed. There's nothing really new here other than these potential issues are now getting reported. "The program can't start because cyggcc_s-1.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." I tried re-install, but to no avail. Suggestions?
