This protocol is normally used only for booting diskless workstations, or for file transfer to embedded clients on a closed network. The tftp package provides the client, while the tftp-server package provides the server. The TFTP protocol provides very little security, and these packages should not be used unless needed. This package replaces versions of these same programs, which had been distributed as part of inetutils. The new version is derived from the tftp-hpa source, which consolidates and combines various versions of the BSD TFTP implementation, and adds a number of useful features not present in the old inetutils implementation: * IPv6 support (untested) * tcp_wrappers support (for at least SOME security) * client uploads to the server now work * client has readline support (command history) [[ compiled using gcc-4.3.4-3 ]] Many thanks go to Charles Wilson for a lot of support and mentionable parts of the packaging work! -- Gernot Hillier volunteer tftp maintainer for cygwin ==================================================================== To update your installation, click on the "Install Cygwin now" link on the http://cygwin.com/ web page.
