Seems like a long way to go to keep support for a minor feature, which was buggy to start with. While it's certainly your choice, 1.5 is, as mentioned already, unsupported. You might want to consider generating a little script that you invoke as "chmod" which calls "attrib" with the appropriate setting for the "r" flag when it spots a MS-DOS style path and the real chmod in all other cases.
