You can see that by using cygcheck: $ cygcheck rebase Found: C:\cygwin-1.7\bin\rebase.exe C:\cygwin-1.7\bin\rebase.exe C:\cygwin-1.7\bin\cygwin1.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\ADVAPI32.DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\KERNEL32.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntdll.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\RPCRT4.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\Secur32.dll That's why the instructions that you quoted in your first message in this thread (http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2009-12/msg00159.html) said to run rebase on a *copy* of cygwin1.dll.
