Not sure what happened in the first place. I don't *think* that the apparently shadowing of /bin/bash by /usr/local/bin/bash is an issue, since /usr/local/bin/bash is just a symlink to /bin/bash. I would not be surprised if this was all the result of my trying to install 1.7 directly on top of an existing 1.5 install. Also, since I had done a separate trial-use install of 1.7 before, which I had erased, setup-1.7 may have been confused about what was already installed ...
