Cygwin doesn't recognize the owner and group SIDs in the remote file's ACLs. Usually this only occurs on a Samba share. The most easy way to check is to mount the drive with the "noacl" mount flag as documented in http://cygwin.com/1.7/cygwin-ug-net/using.html#mount-table and see if it works then. > /cygdrive/c/home/tim/tmp>./GetVolInfo w:/ > Device Type : 6 > Characteristics : 10 > Object Id : 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 > Extended Info : Not Samba > 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 > 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 > 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 > Volume Name : > Serial Number : 667418949 > Max Filenamelength : 255 > Filesystemname : > Flags : 2b > FILE_CASE_SENSITIVE_SEARCH : TRUE > FILE_CASE_PRESERVED_NAMES : TRUE > FILE_UNICODE_ON_DISK : FALSE > FILE_PERSISTENT_ACLS : TRUE > FILE_FILE_COMPRESSION : FALSE > FILE_VOLUME_QUOTAS : TRUE > FILE_SUPPORTS_SPARSE_FILES : FALSE > FILE_SUPPORTS_REPARSE_POINTS: FALSE > FILE_SUPPORTS_REMOTE_STORAGE: FALSE > FILE_VOLUME_IS_COMPRESSED : FALSE > FILE_SUPPORTS_OBJECT_IDS : FALSE > FILE_SUPPORTS_ENCRYPTION : FALSE > FILE_NAMED_STREAMS : FALSE > FILE_READ_ONLY_VOLUME : FALSE > FILE_SEQUENTIAL_WRITE_ONCE : FALSE > FILE_SUPPORTS_TRANSACTIONS : FALSE This looks very much like a really, *really* old Samba, something older than version 3.2. It might be helpful if you could figure that out and tell us, even if it's just for the records for now.
