My only WAG is a corrupted *.lst.* file in '/etc/setup'.  You'd need
to get more specific about what you did that lead to a good installation
before anyone could conjecture further.  Given the fact that this
situation is now unlikely to reproduce for you, I don't believe that
we'd be able to get closer than a good guess.
