Yes. And I tried every snapshot after that. I realise that you (or Corinna) might have better things do than looking into a speed increase with one application (rsync) that only I have noticed. If there is a real chance for figuring this out I would verify my observations again - especially that the first "fast" snapshot was 2007-08-02 and the last "fast one" 2007-08-13 and some concrete figures about the speed increase.
