I'd recommend against doing this unless the only user you plan to ftp in as is this same user. On XP, SYSTEM is the right user to run the service as for general usage. Of course, for debugging purposes, you can try anything you like to see if it sheds light on the problem. But if it's a permission problem that's cleared up by running the service as a regular user, I can only surmise that the problem has to do with network shares.
