Chances are, you made modifications to /etc/profile, so upgrading base-files no longer copies /etc/defaults/etc/profile over your modifications. If you don't need your modifications, then just manually do that copy yourself, and you will once again start picking up improvements to the startup scripts next time base-files is upgraded. - -- Life is short - so eat dessert first!
