What I'm wondering is whether we need the Windows NUL device at all for implementing /dev/null... It's rather trivial[*] to implement one without resorting to a Windows device. Would there be any way of distinguishing an emulation from the real NUL device? Igor [*] The implementation would be substantially the same as that for /dev/zero, except for removing the test for FH_FULL and always setting len to 0 in read(). -- http://cs.nyu.edu/~pechtcha/ |\ _,,,---,,_ pechtcha AT cs DOT nyu DOT edu | igor AT watson DOT ibm DOT com ZZZzz /,`.-'`' -. ;-;;,_ Igor Peshansky, Ph.D. (name changed!) |,4- ) )-,_. ,\ ( `'-' old name: Igor Pechtchanski '---''(_/--' `-'\_) fL a.k.a JaguaR-R-R-r-r-r-.-.-.
