We need more details. Did you mean emacs or xemacs (they are different, after all)? Are you running the cygwin version of emacs? If so, you are better off using POSIX paths (/home/mos) and not Windows paths, especially since \ can be treated as an escape character. If not (ie. you are running some native Windows compilation of emacs), then consider using the cygwin version, or else ask the distributor of the windows version for help.
