Will try > again then. I did a clean reinstall of XP and still the problem is > present. So now I'll have to put my trust in DELL. The machine is now a cool 48 degrees no matter what it does or how hard it works, but cygwin still wont compile gcc 4.0.1 or do too much work using autotools (automake etc).
