FYI, even on WinXP, which does allow renaming a currently running program, Cygwin will break, since it apparently relies on the application image being present on-disk when forking. So, while "mv /bin/bash.exe /bin/bash1.exe" works, subsequent invocations of any command result in "bash: fork: No such file or directory".
