If you do a fresh install of Cygwin and include the ruby parser (I
can't remember if it's there by default), ruby does not work. You get
a really obscure error msg having something to do with "ubygems". To
make it work, you have to

unsetenv RUBYOPT

Took me a long time to figure that one out. This should be fixed of course.
