Where did you explain your problem "clearly?" Make doesn't have default rules to deal with .obj. Did you write in a rule? e.g. .c.o: cl /c $*.c mv $*.obj $*.o or, if you don't want to rename the .obj files, did you add .obj in .SUFFIXES and add rules about how to make .obj from .c and .exe from .obj?
