This was caused by: $ echo $CYGWIN notitle glob check_case:strict server=1 $ mount | grep 'on / ' C:\Program\Cygwin on / type system (binmode) $ cd / $ CMD.EXE Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195] (C) Copyright 1985-2000 Microsoft Corp. C:\Program\Cygwin>dir ..\cyg*.* xxxx-xx-xx xx:xx cygwin i.e: Cygwin is set for case SENSITIVE operation and the install dir name NOT matching the / mount entry. This has bitten me once before; it reappeared due to my fiddling with the mountpoints at login and logout (I'm using the same cygwin installation from multiple OS'es/machines). /Hannu E K Nevalainen, B.Sc.
