Cgywin is exactly what I was looking for--a way of running ssh2-compatible terminal shells for access to my production Solaris enviorments that WORK the way they should. SecureCRT was my only option until now, and it was driving me nuts. Not anymore--xterm running under WindowMaker is working almost exactly as I wish it would. To everyone who's worked on cygwin, my thanks. You've made my job easier and less frustrating.
