For the most part, all NTEA does is store some information (e.g., permissions, and, of late, owner) in a special file in the root directory. The only explanation I could think of was that the routines that make use of this information were only enabled on NT, but is this necessary? Corinna or Pierre would probably be the best people to explain this.
