I actually did downgrade xerces-c to 2.3.0 by way of the 'prev' selection in setup and the binaries appear to be 2.3.0 After having done this, I selected the src install for xerces in setup and the source tree that was copied into /usr/src was 'xerces-c-2.4.0-1' On your sugestion, I have located and downloaded a 2.3.0 src on one of the mirrors. Looks like this will work.
