It allows your code to quickly draw images complete with lines, arcs, text, multiple colors, cut and paste from other images, and flood fills, and write out the result as a PNG or JPEG file. This is particularly useful in World Wide Web applications, where PNG and JPEG are two of the formats accepted for inline images by most browsers. gd is not a paint program. If you are looking for a paint program, you are looking in the wrong place. If you are not a programmer, you are looking in the wrong place, unless you are installing a required library in order to run an application. gd does not provide for every possible desirable graphics operation. It is not necessary or desirable for gd to become a kitchen-sink graphics package, but version 2.0 does include most frequently requested features, including both truecolor and palette images, resampling (smooth resizing of truecolor images) and so forth. Questions on 'gd', as always, should be posted to the cygwin mailing list, preferably with some mention of 'gd' in the header. Enjoy! GENERIC INFORMATION: INSTALLATION: ============= To update your installation, click on the "Install Cygwin now" link on the http://cygwin.com/ web page. This downloads setup.exe to your system. Save it and run setup, answer the questions and pick up '%package%' from the 'XXX' category. This package includes the executable and all documentation. DOWNLOAD: ========= Note that downloads from sources.redhat.com (aka cygwin.com) aren't allowed due to bandwidth limitations. This means that you will need to find a mirror which has this update. These mirrors already got the package, the others will probably have the latest version of this package fairly soon: In the US, ftp://planetmirror.com/pub/cygwin/ and ftp://mirrors.rcn.net/mirrors/sources.redhat.com/cygwin/ have reliable high bandwidth connections. QUESTIONS: ========== If you want to make a point or ask a question the Cygwin mailing list is the appropriate place.
