Archaeological notes: dircmp was listed as legacy in the susv2 standard and removed in susv3 (in deference to diff -r). Rationale: Although a useful concept, the historical output of this directory comparison program is not suitable for processing in application programs. Also, the diff -r command gives equivalent functionality. Of course, tar was also removed in susv3, in deference to pax.
