What is interesting is that I tried running the program from outside bash (i.e via a windows prompt), and then it complained because it couldn't find cygwin1.dll. So the cygwin dll is indeed being linked somehow. my compiling command line is: g++ -w -mno-cygwin .... from inside a cygwin tcsh shell.
