The problem is that the postinstall scripts fail to execute properly and leave me with a non-functional cygwin installation. ie: clicking the cygwin shortcut leads to a "bash-2.05b$" prompt from which no commands work. System is XP SP1. setup.exe is 2.340.2.5. I located some discussions on the topic but none contained a workable solution. http://sources.redhat.com/ml/cygwin/2003-05/msg01331.html -- Deals with download corruption, undownloaded packages and so on. I can verify that my downloads are complete and functional because they work on other (win2k) systems. http://sources.redhat.com/ml/cygwin/2003-08/msg01251.html -- This one is similar. It deals with the user's failure to download the fileutils package. http://sources.redhat.com/ml/cygwin/2003-04/msg02133.html -- Also a download failure. On my win2k box a full installation and an installation of only the stuff I need works fine. They both work fine in c:\cygwin and in any different directory. ALL these types of installations fail on the XP box.
