The simplest way to fix this is to get the libpcre package (not libpcre0: libpcre) from a mirror near you - install it using Setup.exe. If the package is not on the mirror you were looking at, you can use another one. I personally use ftp://ftp.mirror.ac.uk, which is in the list and is up to date. If this *is* a problem with your mirror, I'd advise you to use another one permanently: this problem was fixed quite a while ago. If it isn't a problem with your mirror, it might have something to do with the way you ran Setup.exe, so the people responsible for that magnificent tool might be interested in your logs. HTH rlc NB: another mirror I use, ftp.easynet.be, is also up to date and in the list of mirrors. You can select multiple mirrors in the list if you want - that way, if one is unavailable, Setup will use the next one :) On Wed, 25 Jun 2003, JK wrote: > I just updated my installation with the "current" list of packages in > setup. > On startup I get a message from grep.exe saying it can't find > cygpcre.dll. > So now grep, less and more are broken. > > It's the problem described here: > http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin-apps/2003-06/msg00034.html > > aside from waiting until the respective packages are fixed, what do I > need to do to get grep and less working again ? > > > ------- > cygcheck -s -v -r > ------- > > Cygwin Win95/NT Configuration Diagnostics > Current System Time: Wed Jun 25 10:00:00 2003 > > Windows XP Professional Ver 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 1 > > Path: C:\cygwin\home\Yo\bin > C:\cygwin\home\Yo\jrun\bin > C:\cygwin\usr\local\bin > C:\cygwin\bin > C:\cygwin\bin > e:\Python22\ > e:\Perl\bin\ > c:\WINDOWS\system32 > c:\WINDOWS > c:\WINDOWS\system32\WBEM > c:\WINDOWS\system32 > c:\WINDOWS > c:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem > c:\Program Files\Common Files\Adaptec Shared\System > c:\Program Files\Symantec\pcAnywhere\ > C:\cygwin\usr\X11R6\bin > > C:\cygwin\bin\id.exe output (nontsec) > UID: 1003(Yo) GID: 513(None) > 513(None) > > C:\cygwin\bin\id.exe output (ntsec) > UID: 1003(Yo) GID: 513(None) > 513(None) 544(Administrators) > 545(Users) > > SysDir: C:\WINDOWS\System32 > WinDir: C:\WINDOWS > > HOME = `C:\cygwin\home\Yo' > MAKE_MODE = `unix' > PWD = `/home/Yo/Desktop' > USER = `Yo' > > ALLUSERSPROFILE = `C:\Documents and Settings\All Users' > APPDATA = `C:\Documents and Settings\Yo\Application Data' > CLIENTNAME = `Console' > COMMONPROGRAMFILES = `C:\Program Files\Common Files' > COMPUTERNAME = `YOSTATION' > COMSPEC = `C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe' > HOMEDRIVE = `C:' > HOMEPATH = `\Documents and Settings\Yo' > LOGONSERVER = `\\YOSTATION' > MANPATH = `:/usr/ssl/man' > NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS = `1' > OLDPWD = `/home/Yo' > OS = `Windows_NT' > PATHEXT = > `.COM;.EXE;.BAT;.CMD;.VBS;.VBE;.JS;.JSE;.WSF;.WSH;.py;.pyc;.pyo;.pyw;.pys' > PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE = `x86' > PROCESSOR_IDENTIFIER = `x86 Family 6 Model 6 Stepping 2, AuthenticAMD' > PROCESSOR_LEVEL = `6' > PROCESSOR_REVISION = `0602' > PROGRAMFILES = `C:\Program Files' > PROMPT = `$P$G' > PS1 = `\[\033[1;30m\]\t \[\033[1;34m\] \u@\h \[\033[1;33m\]\w > \n\[\033[1;35m\]$\[\033[1;37m\]' > SESSIONNAME = `Console' > SHLVL = `1' > SYSTEMDRIVE = `C:' > SYSTEMROOT = `C:\WINDOWS' > TEMP = `c:\DOCUME~1\Yo\LOCALS~1\Temp' > TERM = `cygwin' > TMP = `c:\DOCUME~1\Yo\LOCALS~1\Temp' > USERDOMAIN = `YOSTATION' > USERNAME = `Yo' > USERPROFILE = `C:\Documents and Settings\Yo' > WINDIR = `C:\WINDOWS' > _ = `/usr/bin/cygcheck' > > HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cygnus Solutions > HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin > HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin\mounts v2 > (default) = `/cygdrive' > cygdrive flags = 0x00000022 > HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin\Program Options > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cygnus Solutions > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin\mounts v2 > (default) = `/cygdrive' > cygdrive flags = 0x00000022 > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin\mounts v2\/ > (default) = `C:/cygwin' > flags = 0x0000000a > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin\mounts v2\/usr/bin > (default) = `C:/cygwin/bin' > flags = 0x0000000a > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin\mounts v2\/usr/lib > (default) = `C:/cygwin/lib' > flags = 0x0000000a > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin\mounts > v2\/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts > (default) = `C:\cygwin\usr\X11R6\lib\X11\fonts' > flags = 0x0000000a > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin\Program Options > > a: fd N/A N/A > c: hd NTFS 10236Mb 84% CP CS UN PA FC > d: cd CDFS 1Mb 100% CS UN Resumes > e: hd FAT32 20471Mb 35% CP UN STORAGE > f: cd N/A N/A > > . /cygdrive user > binmode,cygdrive > C:/cygwin / system > binmode > C:/cygwin/bin /usr/bin system > binmode > C:/cygwin/lib /usr/lib system > binmode > C:\cygwin\usr\X11R6\lib\X11\fonts /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts system > binmode > . /cygdrive system > binmode,cygdrive > > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\awk.exe > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\bash.exe > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\cat.exe > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\cp.exe > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\cpp.exe > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\find.exe > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\gcc.exe > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\gdb.exe > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\grep.exe > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\ld.exe > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\ls.exe > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\make.exe > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\mv.exe > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\rm.exe > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\sed.exe > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\sh.exe > Found: C:\cygwin\bin\tar.exe > > 58k 2002/05/07 C:\cygwin\bin\cygbz2-1.dll -
