With the latest version (4.6.0-2) you see '$' because the subshell is disabled by default, so no subshell prompt is read at all :) Use '-U' option to enable subshell and you should be able to see this behaviour. > > > 3. And is it running on Cygwin or other platform ? As you can see below I've verified that MC on Cygwin behaves exactly the same way as MC on Linux.
