I put the /usr/X11R6/bin into my .bash_profile and eamcs and gvim both work. I found that this is caused by ModelSim. There is a libSM.dll in modelSim. So as long as I put /usr/X11R6/bin before modelsim, my X11 apps will function well. Thanks again.
