Xinetd is a powerful replacement for inetd. Xinetd has access control mechanisms, extensive logging capabilities, the ability to make services available based on time, can place limits on the number of servers that can be started, and has deployable defence mechanisms to protect against port scanners, among other things. Port Notes: The package requires cygwin-1.3.17 or newer to run. RPC services are not supported. To create default xinetd configuration files execute /usr/bin/xinetd-config Suggested packages to install: sysvinit, initscripts, chkconfig To install the package, click on the "Install Cygwin now" link on the http://cygwin.com/ web page. This downloads setup.exe to your system. Then, run setup and answer all of the questions. You'll find xinetd listed in the "Net" category. If you have questions or comments, please send them to the Cygwin mailing list at: cygwin AT cygwin DOT com . I would appreciate it if you would use this mailing list rather than emailing me directly.
