That was essentially it - you started it up and it hung for a long while, then crashed. I'm puzzled as to what caused it to fail before (hopefully the strace output can help), but as it's gone now, good riddance. However, the ssh X forwarding still doesn't work (consistently). ssh spawns sh, which hangs on exit. The strace output is slightly different for the ssh1 and ssh2 cases, which may also be due to the fact that I don't use password authentication for ssh1... I can post the strace output for both cases to the list if necessary.
