If I then resume it with fg, the man process crashes giving an error: --- steveb AT TELLER ~ $ man ls steveb AT TELLER ~ $ fg man ls Error executing formatting or display command. System command (cd /usr/man ; (echo -e ".pl 1100i"; cat /usr/man/man1/ls.1; echo ".pl \n(nlu+10") | /usr/bin/tbl | /usr/bin/groff -Tascii -mandoc | /usr/bin/les s) exited with status 256. No manual entry for ls steveb AT TELLER ~ $ --- If I invoke man as "man ls | less", the problem does not occur. Normal (non-man) less processes suspend and resume correctly. Neither does the problem occur under rxvt. The FAQ refers to a similar problem resulting from the ash package (and /bin/sh) not being installed. However, I do have the ash package installed, and /bin/sh.exe exists. There is one report of a similar error in the archives, with no response: http://sources.redhat.com/ml/cygwin/2000-07/msg01091.html Cygcheck output is below, here is the executive summary: Win2k SP2 cygwin 1.3.12-2 ash 20020131-1 bash 2.05b-1 Jeremy --- Cygwin Win95/NT Configuration Diagnostics Current System Time: Sun Jul 28 05:06:11 2002 Windows 2000 Professional Ver 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 2 Path: C:\cygwin\usr\local\bin C:\cygwin\bin C:\cygwin\bin c:\WINNT\system32 c:\WINNT c:\WINNT\System32\Wbem d:\programs\mysql\bin e:\steveb\scripts SysDir: C:\WINNT\System32 WinDir: C:\WINNT HOME = `e:\steveb' MAKE_MODE = `unix' PWD = `/home/steveb' USER = `steveb' ALLUSERSPROFILE = `C:\Documents and Settings\All Users' APPDATA = `C:\Documents and Settings\steveb\Application Data' COMMONPROGRAMFILES = `C:\Program Files\Common Files' COMPUTERNAME = `TELLER' COMSPEC = `C:\WINNT\system32\cmd.exe' HOMEDRIVE = `C:' HOMEPATH = `\' LESS = `-x4 -M' LOGDIR = `/home/steveb/log' LOGONSERVER = `\\TELLER' MANPATH = `:/usr/ssl/man' NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS = `1' OLDPWD = `/usr/bin' OS2LIBPATH = `C:\WINNT\system32\os2\dll;' OS = `Windows_NT' PAGER = `/usr/bin/less' PATHEXT = `.COM;.EXE;.BAT;.CMD;.VBS;.VBE;.JS;.JSE;.WSF;.WSH' PERLLIB = `/home/steveb/lib/perl' PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE = `x86' PROCESSOR_IDENTIFIER = `x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 3, GenuineIntel' PROCESSOR_LEVEL = `6' PROCESSOR_REVISION = `0803' PROGRAMFILES = `C:\Program Files' PROMPT = `$P$G' PS1 = `\[\033]0;\w\007 \033[32m\]\u@\h \[\033[33m\w\033[0m\] $ ' SHELL = `/usr/bin/bash' SHLVL = `1' SYSTEMDRIVE = `C:' SYSTEMROOT = `C:\WINNT' TEMP = `f:\temp\steveb' TERM = `cygwin' TMP = `f:\temp\steveb' USERDOMAIN = `TELLER' USERNAME = `steveb' USERPROFILE = `C:\Documents and Settings\steveb' WINDIR = `C:\WINNT' _ = `/usr/bin/cygcheck' Use `-r' to scan registry a: fd N/A N/A c: hd NTFS 2996Mb 60% CP CS UN PA FC system d: hd NTFS 4502Mb 45% CP CS UN PA FC data e: hd NTFS 2157Mb 65% CP CS UN PA FC dynamic f: hd FAT32 3234Mb 79% CP UN TEMP g: cd CDFS 59Mb 100% CS UN Installed h: cd N/A N/A C:\cygwin / system binmode c: /c system binmode d: /d system binmode e: /e system binmode f: /f system binmode g: /g system binmode h: /h system binmode C:\cygwin/bin /usr/bin system binmode C:\cygwin/lib /usr/lib system binmode . /cygdrive user binmode,cygdrive Found: C:\cygwin\bin\bash.exe Found: C:\cygwin\bin\cat.exe Found: C:\cygwin\bin\cpp.exe Found: C:\cygwin\bin\find.exe Found: C:\cygwin\bin\gcc.exe Not Found: gdb Found: C:\cygwin\bin\ld.exe Found: C:\cygwin\bin\ls.exe Found: C:\cygwin\bin\make.exe Found: C:\cygwin\bin\sh.exe 58k 2002/05/07 C:\cygwin\bin\cygbz2-1.dll -
