first, many thanks for cygwin. i could not survive
without it.

am i doing something wrong or why does tar not
work on my dat-tape?

here's more info:

so the 'permission denied' is the problem. i think, version 1.3.4 worked.
v1.3.5 had the same problem.

any idea?
