I have had difficulty getting binutils configured for maximum support of alignments, as well as in getting all the necessary steps engaged. A 60% performance improvement from the default cygwin 4-byte alignments is typical for 64-bit data when all the steps are engaged. For many of us, use of XP is correlated with P4, and ending up with less performance on a P4 than on a P3 is a form of failure. ----- Original Message ----- From: "nasser abbasi" To: "Bob Sandefur" ; Sent: Wednesday, August 29, 2001 5:37 AM Subject: Re: cygwin on XP > I am using cygwin on XP RC1 (build 2505?) > > can't start an xterm on latest Xfree86. xterm crashed with a seq fault. other than this problem, > I have not seen anything else. > > Nasser > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Bob Sandefur" > To: > Sent: Wednesday, August 29, 2001 5:03 AM > Subject: cygwin on XP > > > Hi- > > For about a month I have been running cygwin on Release candidate 1 from MSDN professional subscriptions, > cygwin works for me so far but I only use the shell, shell scripts, awk and sed on a > regular basis (gcc and g77 are okay as far as I have used > them) and the cygwin installer happly updated my windows XP cygwin carry over from 2000. > > However according to the web page: > The Cygwin environment works under all modern versions of Windows except Windows CE and (currently) Windows XP, although we will > probably fix this when XP is released commercially. > > I searched the mailing list but found nothing on failures associated with XP.
