The solution for this you can find in inetutils-1.3.2.README. To use 'login' you need some special user rights under NT/W2K: "Act as part of the operating system" "Replace process level token" "Increase quotas" Even as Administrator you don't have all of these rights by default. Set these rights for your users/groups and login works! Are you starting a cygwin bash shell from the shortcut that the setup sticks on your desktop? When you start that bash shell from the desktop, AFAIK you ARE logged into "the cygwin". Please give us more detail about what you are trying to do- I have never had to "login into the cygwin" and I love using cygwin, it works wonderfully. -Peter -----Original Message----- From: Mark Toung [mailto:mtoung AT ariba DOT com] Sent: Wednesday, August 01, 2001 3:45 PM To: 'cygwin AT cygwin DOT com' Subject: cant even login uh..i cant even login into the cygwin (less even try ssh) by typing login on the screen... i am on a standalone NT4 server and my /etc/passwd looks like joe::500:513:joe smith,joe,S-1-5-21-1095256405-657077046-1539857752-500:/home:/bin/bash and the group file is like None:S-1-5-21-1095256405-657077046-1539857752-513:513: uh..can like someone please help me? i read teh docs and all the forums i can find and i still cant get this thing going thx m -- Unsubscribe info: http://cygwin.com/ml/#unsubscribe-simple Bug reporting: http://cygwin.com/bugs.html Documentation: http://cygwin.com/docs.html FAQ: http://cygwin.com/faq/ -- Unsubscribe info: http://cygwin.com/ml/#unsubscribe-simple Bug reporting: http://cygwin.com/bugs.html Documentation: http://cygwin.com/docs.html FAQ: http://cygwin.com/faq/
