HTH, Peter P.S. You can use google to search the cygwin mailing archives- type in: searchterm1 searchterm2 site:cygwin.com and it will give you a plethora of results. -----Original Message----- From: Mark Toung [mailto:mtoung AT ariba DOT com] Sent: Wednesday, August 01, 2001 4:31 PM To: 'Peter Buckley'; Mark Toung; 'cygwin AT cygwin DOT com' Subject: RE: cant even login i know you dont have to login into cygwin (when you launch from the shortcut in the desktop), but you can type login from that prompt, and then it'll prompt you for login/passwd.... i just want to get this working before i start doing ssh, cuz im assuming if i cant login from there, then theres no way i can login from ssh -----Original Message----- From: Peter Buckley [mailto:peter DOT buckley AT cportcorp DOT com] Sent: Wednesday, August 01, 2001 12:59 PM To: 'Mark Toung'; 'cygwin AT cygwin DOT com' Subject: RE: cant even login Login? Are you starting a cygwin bash shell from the shortcut that the setup sticks on your desktop? When you start that bash shell from the desktop, AFAIK you ARE logged into "the cygwin". Please give us more detail about what you are trying to do- I have never had to "login into the cygwin" and I love using cygwin, it works wonderfully. -Peter -----Original Message----- From: Mark Toung [mailto:mtoung AT ariba DOT com] Sent: Wednesday, August 01, 2001 3:45 PM To: 'cygwin AT cygwin DOT com' Subject: cant even login uh..i cant even login into the cygwin (less even try ssh) by typing login on the screen... i am on a standalone NT4 server and my /etc/passwd looks like joe::500:513:joe smith,joe,S-1-5-21-1095256405-657077046-1539857752-500:/home:/bin/bash and the group file is like None:S-1-5-21-1095256405-657077046-1539857752-513:513: uh..can like someone please help me? i read teh docs and all the forums i can find and i still cant get this thing going thx m -- Unsubscribe info: http://cygwin.com/ml/#unsubscribe-simple Bug reporting: http://cygwin.com/bugs.html Documentation: http://cygwin.com/docs.html FAQ: http://cygwin.com/faq/ -- Unsubscribe info: http://cygwin.com/ml/#unsubscribe-simple Bug reporting: http://cygwin.com/bugs.html Documentation: http://cygwin.com/docs.html FAQ: http://cygwin.com/faq/
