I have no idea. The thing is, it could open "\\.\tape0' so the handle should be ok. I even tried renaming my tape drive to /dev/[n]t0 either for testing. I have no problems. Could you compile a debug version of mt and debug it? Oh, btw, did you succeed in reading or writing on the tape using Cygwin tar/cpio/dd/something? Did you use the same user account when creating the mount point and when calling mt? If you're using a ssh/rsh/telnet session to connect to the box, do you see the mount points for the tapes there, too?
