1.1.8: can't access /home/user from a windows native executable like rc.exe

Why does the following not work:

- - -
$ RC.EXE afile.rc


afile.rc (2): error RC2135 : file not found: 
/home/app/main.ico

- - -

The file /home/app/main.ico is accessible and readable 
with vi etc..


Contents of afile.rc:
- - -
$ cat ./afile.rc
DIOS_ICON  ICON  DISCARDABLE
"/home/app/main.ico"
- - -

If I use "//nthost/app/main.ico" (UNC notation?) 
instead of "/home/app/main.ico", it works.

Again, why can RC.EXE and other m$-tools not access 
files in the posix notation (/a/bb/ccc)?
