Looks like I didn't pay close enough attention to my task manager process listings. Hidden amongst the top list of system processes were three undead instances of emacs. No idea how they got there. Problem finally solved. And boy do I feel silly for not catching it earlier... Thanks for the help. :) -Alex -----Original Message----- From: cygwin-owner AT sources DOT redhat DOT com [mailto:cygwin-owner AT sources DOT redhat DOT com] On Behalf Of Corinna Vinschen Sent: Monday, July 09, 2001 1:07 AM To: cygwin Subject: Re: Undead hard link On Sun, Jul 08, 2001 at 12:47:54PM -0500, Alex Malinovich wrote: > Here's my screen output: > > --------------------------------------------------------------------- > Administrator AT THIEF /lib > $ ps > PID PPID PGID WINPID TTY UID STIME COMMAND > 1836 1 1836 1836 con 500 12:43:41 /usr/bin/bash > 2448 1836 2448 2332 con 500 12:44:27 /usr/bin/ps > > Administrator AT THIEF /lib > $ rm edit > rm: cannot unlink `edit': Permission denied > > Administrator AT THIEF /lib > $ > --------------------------------------------------------------------- > > I have no other relevant windows processes running. Sure? Did you try it after a reboot? I have no problems using hardlinks and I can't think of any reason for your problem besides a process locking the file. The fact that the Windows `del' command refuses to delete the file is a hint either.
