But maybe >a cygwin user has suddenly to work with Java and is searching for a good >programming environment. Then he can really profit from an announce in this >list! Since JDE requires some variant of emacs and JDE announcements already occur there, there's no need to duplicate them any further. What if the user isn't using emacs? Then they probably won't switch editors just to use JDE since that would require learning two new tools. Also, what if someone needs to know about source control tools? Should cvs-announce be duplicated here as well? What about build tools? Should both ant and make be announced here? What about OpenOffice announcments? We could go on forever with any tools anyone would ever use. >Another word to the traffic in this list. IMHO this list is really very useful >and help comes back prompt among other things because so many people participate >on this list. BUT: There is so many traffic onto this list (on one weekend >i get normally ~ 200-300 postings) that these few announcements (~ two per month >i think) of Paul really doesnīt matter but on the contrary they are useful for >those one who doesnīt already use JDE. I was able to learn about JDE through other means (I'm assuming Paul was, too). Those means are still open to others. >These announcements doesnīt contain any attachments so they are small text-messages >which donīt waste your line! And nobody is forced to read the announcement if he >isnīt interested in, you can simply delete it, because the subject of such an >announcement-posting says all. I suppose you'd also say SPAM should be OK on this list, too? >here comes my opinion: Despite i get this announcement three times because i have >subscribed this list, NTEmacs-list and JDE list, i donīt feel bothered because >i simply hit my DELETE key on the two ones which i donīt need (needed time for >this really hard work: ~ 1 second :-). >IMHO itīs much more annoying to get about 20 postings for a discussion over an >announcement which occurs about 2 times per month and which can really be useful >and can on the other side also simply and fast be deleted if it doesnīt interest! I am bothered: 1. It makes me think there could be something wrong with the mailers. 2. It makes me think there could be something wrong with the Notes servers. 3. It makes me think JDE is extremely unstable since there're so many releases. Noel This communication is for informational purposes only.
