You should make a ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc \ --libexecdir='${sbindir}' --localstatedir=/var Then edit defines.h, line 439 and uncomment the `#define USE_PIPES 1' before starting `make'. Install that ssh and report if your problem remains or disappears.
