Date: Tue, 6 Mar 2001 14:09:08 -0000 Does "syslogd" work? I am trying to get "ssmtp" to work with "mutt" but, coming from an OutlookExpress-Microsoft-hand-holding place, I am finding it difficult to set up all the configuration files (all I want to do is download POP3 mail from "theServer" and send SMTP to "theServer"). I thought I could use the syslogd daemon to get some idea of what ssmtp is doing, but when I type "syslogd&" at the bash prompt, the command starts and exits immediately! I have created /etc/syslog.conf with *.* /var/log/messages and created the directory "/var/log". I have even tried creating an empty file "/var/log/messages", using "touch". I note that there is mention of using the poxy eventvwr MS event logging mechanism, instead of syslog, however I see nothing, de nada, in the "application" log. -- Want to unsubscribe from this list?
