In short, the NT resource kits seem to be the common cause here. I was able to isolate it to the reskit (tried supplament 3 & 4). Better still, by backing out the reskit and removing the following: %NTRESKIT% the reskit path from %PATH% HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Reskit After rebooting OpenSSH no longer gets a Dr. Watson on id.exe. I've been able to reproduce this on both a PDC and a member server, both are runing NT4 SP6a.
