I've also installed MKS tooks, Interix, and SFU. When I installed the latest cygwin, I first "uninstalled" the old one. However, I failed to remember that to make the old one "more accessible" I put some of the stuff in my "bin" directory. (c:\bin). There Earnie found another different cygwin1.dll. Also, there was a cygwin.dll. After removing both, "where" now works. All is well. Sorry to be so klutzy! Thank you for your help, all. Ed PS. Microsoft Premier support would have cost at least $100 for such assistance. Find and remove all extranious versions of cygwin1.dll. The most current version appears to be in f:/cyg/bin.
