As I understood it, there was some ntsec specific code of hers that was getting invoked regardless of whether the option was set or not. Assuming you don't set ntsec in your CYGWIN environment variable and that the offending code does not execute in this mode, you should see no performance degradation as a result of security (because it won't be executed). Corinna's changes have attempted to make correct use of NTFS security attributes so that Cygwin can interact properly with them. Some of this requires understanding information that may be domain specific. This is why the use of ntsec may have more initial overhead. Last I heard, Corinna was looking at these issues too. Those who want better security features in Cygwin and a better marrying of NT security model with traditional *NIX style permissions are getting a big boost from Corinna's changes!
