When I try to debug our AFS-client[1] it hangs gdb every time (and it looks
like the inferior program dies or is never started). 

Reproduce by:
* download arla from ftp://ftp.stacken.kth.se/pub/arla/snap/arla-gdb.tar.gz
* unpack
* run configure w/o argument
* run make
* make install (it installs under /usr/arla), 
* run gdb /usr/arla/bin/arlad
* start with ``r -zt''
[gdb hangs]

``ps axlwww'' doesn't show a arlad child to gdb.

Any clue how I should figure out what's wrong ?
