If an Xserver is a possibility for you rxvt does the trick w/ ssh1, I was unimpressed with the non-X version. Maybe you should look into the public domain Xserver code that I see advertised in several places. I personally would like to see it developed into a Netscape plugin. If kanji is unavailable for rxvt then you should ask around. Rxvt is the standard on Linux and linux is the global standard. > > Also concerning the terminal, when I first log in with ssh, it seems to > > pause waiting for some keyboard input (which isn't the normal behavior), > > and sometimes starts spitting out "invalid escape" errors until I > hitcntl-c. I have not experienced the escape errors but the pause is the encrypted handshake. > (and TTSSH(http://www.zip.com.au/~roca/ttssh.html) is not enough for me > since it does not support SSH2) If you have control over the installations of ssh on the servers then I would install ssh1 as well as ssh2. ssh1 is a standard, probably just as good as ssh2 and is in the public domain. ssh1 will be developed in parallel to ssh2 anyway and it is the isp standard. Since it is more mature, it compiles better. I just installed it on three unix flavors but ssh2 broke on compile on ibm aix. ===== John van Vlaanderen ######################################### # CXN, Inc.
