Stupid stupid stupid. For whatever reason, my bash startup files (.bashrc, /etc/bashrc, .bash_profile, /etc/profile) were not getting executed, so my path listed the NT-native directories before the cygwin ones. The wrong "ls" binary was being run. Once I fixed that, the ntsec stuff worked like a charm. Sorry for the confusion.
