Not exactly correct. I subscribe to SGI anual support contract at work. SGI supplies GNU stuff, starting IRIX 6.5.0, on an extra CD, marked as IRIX extras. It contains a lot of GNU stuff. The source code is available on the same CD, you would need inst command to install it.
